Empowerment Series: What Is Empowerment

There's so much written about empowerment and whilst some of it I agree with, I would like to offer my experience of what empowerment is.

All too often, we are given impressions about empowerment that suggest it's a state or place to be arrived at - if you are not experiencing prosperity, true love, the perfect job, house, car, etc, then you are not in a state of empowerment. It took me some time to figure out that the successful working of the Universal Laws does not necessarily indicate empowerment, and the lack of success in this work does not indicate failure. Please do not misunderstand me, the Universal laws are useful and understanding the system definitely has its advantages however, Empowerment itself goes beyond the Universal Laws, beyond having what you want, beyond whatever promises you've been made.

To me, empowerment is recognising where you fit within the system that you live in right now. We live in this Universe. We live on this planet. We live in this world. Whatever the truth of this world, it is in process and right now it's pretty clunky - limping along trying to heal, some days better than others. We are a part of the ecosystem of this world. It is in recognising this and coming to terms with it that we can gain empowerment.

It is in knowing that the world is in process, just as we are as individuals, it is not perfect. To move beyond the darkness, into the light we must be able to face the world for what it is, cracks, flaws and all. See ourselves for where we are and know that we are not in this alone. That you have powerful help on your side. Knowing when to ask for help and who to ask.

So to me, empowerment comes as a state of Grace. It is with us sometimes, and sometimes it's gone. The better we understand it, the more often we can experience it. It is about balance. Knowing when to take charge and when to ask for help. Knowing when to push forward and when to sit still. Being able to listen to your intuition and knowing when and how to act. There is much to the state of Empowerment and it will evolve as we do but the principles of balance and love will always be.
